Are Technologies and Information Systems Strategic to Organizations?
Before we go into the details, we must first understand what exactly are Information Systems and Technologies.
In a nutshell, Information Systems are sets of interrelated components that collect or retrieve, process, store and distribute information to support decision-making, co-ordination, control, analysis and visualization. The study of Information Systems is normally premised on the assumption that they are socio-technical systems, which encompass both technical and social variables. Information Systems are designed to meet organizational needs, which are socio-technical in nature, often done by using any one of the three models namely the design model, decision making model and the transaction cost model.
